Before I Go to Sleep
Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Christine Lucas wakes up every morning next to a stranger. She doesn’t remember her husband, Ben, in fact she doesn’t remember anything about her life. Then she gets a phone call from a man who says she is her doctor and that she must read her journal. Suddenly, Christine starts to remember…

I was lent this book by a friend so I had to read it next on my list which was good because it compared well to “Crash and Burn” by Lisa Gardner, but a shame as it didn’t come out as favourably. Unlike that novel where there are so many twists and turns, this one builds up slowly to one big climax. Unfortunately that does mean it feels rather slow and it also means that, although there is a good twist at the end, you have a good idea that something is coming whereas in “Crash and Burn” you don’t.

Nevertheless, I think “Before I go to Sleep” is a good read and I did enjoy learning about Christine as she learned about herself. Her character is well fleshed out for someone who has no memory and really, she’s the only one that matters. All in all, if you have a spare weekend, why not give it a go?
