Crash & Burn
Crash & Burn by Lisa Gardner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nicky Franks has been concussed three times, the latest being when she drove her car over a cliff. She shouldn’t have been able to, but she climbed to the top of the cliff because she had to save Vero. Sergeant Wyatt Foster would like to save Vero too, only nobody can find any trace of her and Nicky’s husband Thomas says she doesn’t exist. So why has Nicky been concussed three times recently? And why Nicky and Thomas keep moving? What is it that Nicky needs to keep her safe? Wyatt and his girlfried Tessa Leoni need to find out before it’s too late for all of them.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. It’s quite hard to comment on it because every time I thought I knew what would happen next there was another twist and it all changed direction again. Neither Nicky or Thomas were particularly likeable characters but their story was very compelling and I really did want to know what was going to happen in the end; I certainly couldn’t have guessed it!

On the other hand, Tessa and Wyatt are definitely a pair of likeable characters and I would definitely like to read more stories involving them. I liked the way that they did their jobs very professionally too, professional people who don’t play by the rules in order for a novel to tell the “right” story irritate me as it wouldn’t happen in real life. You can see the lines marked clearly here, and although Tessa and Wyatt go right up to them, they never cross and rightly so.

All in all, I enjoyed this story very much and I would read another one by the same author any time.
