The Warrior Monk
The Warrior Monk by A.D. Starrling
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Yonten is a Monk from the Order of the Three Spears, an order who have pledged their lives to the reincarnation of the immortal warrior. Abbot Kelsang has chosen Yonten to observe and report on the behaviour of the Rose Croix sect but during this investigation he encounters Alexa King. This is his story of what happens next.

A D Starrling writes these short stories to fill in the background of her “Seventeen” series characters and you should definitely read “King’s Crusade” before reading this story as it won’t make a lot of sense to you otherwise.

I am a great fan of “Seventeen” and I really do enjoy these clever background stories which allow us to see the stories from a different perspective or time. This story focuses on the background story of how Yonten meets Alexa and for that reason it maybe isn’t one of my favourites as there is more repetition of previous stories involved than in “Dancing Blades” and “The Meeting” for example.

Nevertheless, it’s still a great read and definitely an interesting addition to the story – Yonten is a great character and I enjoyed the chance to encounter him again.
