Susan’s teenage daughter is in a coma after stepping in front of a bus. Everyone else thinks that it was an accident but the bus driver says that she looked him straight in the eye before she stepped out. So Susan reads her diary and finds that the last entry mentions a secret and is convinced that Charlotte will not wake up until it is discovered. Does the secret have something to do with Susan’s own past?
I read this novel very quickly which is always a good sign for me and it was because it was so very easy to read. The characters were mostly flawed but completely human and very believable and I could quite imagine myself acting exactly the same in Susan’s position. Her relationship with the other characters in the book is also extremely normal and it’s actually quite scary to think that anyone could quite easily get themselves into the same position. I really came to empathise with them all and did not want to the story to end.
I would definitely recommend this book and I will look out for others by the same author eagerly.
